Compared To What We Have Today, Why Yes, I Do.

Miss him? Bush's reputation might be ready for a rebound.

Gee, Thanks.

5,000 gallons of crude a day are spilling into the Gulf, and Team Hopenchange sends us... lawyers.

Now that the oil is coming ashore, what'll they send down here next? Community organizers?

A Personal Note.

Since someone is eventually going to ask, the answer is "yes" - I resigned as Vice President of Baton Rogue Tea Party. The reasons are personal, but it is not because I oppose the Tea Party Movement. I will still be an active member in BRTP and other Tea Parties, just not in a leadership capacity with all it's attendant claims on my time and my energies.

I'm sure this will thrill the local Ron Paul/911 Truth/conspiracy theory types in BRTP who, well, hate my guts. Pop a bottle of non-fluoridated, filtered, pure spring water in celebration, guys, and replenish your precious bodily fluids! (Not, of course, that you'd get that joke without Googling it...)

Speaking Immaturity To (Those Out Of) Power.

Team Hopenchange's Lefty minions keep it classy, in that uniquely adolescent way for which they are famous. What's next? Calling the local nursery, asking if they have a Bush in a pot and hanging up? Popping the 'W' keys off keyboards again?

Say It Ain't So. No, Really - Say It Ain't So.

The New Yorker magazine says Stephen Ambrose, the famous historian and author who lived in New Orleans, faked interviews and quotes for his books on Dwight Eisenhower.

Ambrose was one of my favorite instructors the short time I attended University of New Orleans, and I've always enjoyed his books. But now...

Return To Sharon.

Much has been made of late about conservatives returning to "first-principals" or their "roots" or something like that. So now have the Mount Vernon Statement, the Contract from America, the 9-12 Project from Glenn Beck, the Ron Paul gospels, numerous Tea Party statements, yadda, yadda, yadda - all trying to get us "back there".

We don't need any of that.

The Sharon Statement said it first, and said it best:

Adopted in conference at Sharon, Connecticut, on 11 September 1960.

In this time of moral and political crises, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths. We, as young conservatives, believe:

That foremost among the transcendent values is the individual's use of his God-given free will, whence derives his right to be free from the restrictions of arbitrary force;

That liberty is indivisible, and that political freedom cannot long exist without economic freedom;

That the purpose of government is to protect those freedoms through the preservation of internal order, the provision of national defense, and the administration of justice;

That when government ventures beyond these rightful functions, it accumulates power, which tends to diminish order and liberty;

That the Constitution of the United States is the best arrangement yet devised for empowering government to fulfill its proper role, while restraining it from the concentration and abuse of power;

That the genius of the Constitution- the division of powers- is summed up in the clause that reserves primacy to the several states, or to the people, in those spheres not specifically delegated to the Federal government;

That the market economy, allocating resources by the free play of supply and demand, is the single economic system compatible with the requirements of personal freedom and constitutional government, and that it is at the same time the most productive supplier of human needs;

That when government interferes with the work of the market economy, it tends to reduce the moral and physical strength of the nation; that when it takes from one man to bestow on another, it diminishes the incentive of the first, the integrity of the second, and the moral autonomy of both;

That we will be free only so long as the national sovereignty of the United States is secure; that history shows periods of freedom are rare, and can exist only when free citizens concertedly defend their rights against all enemies;

That the forces of international Communism are, at present, the greatest single threat to these liberties;

That the United States should stress victory over, rather than coexistance with, this menace; and

That American foreign policy must be judged by this criterion: does it serve the just interests of the United States.
Change the phrase "international Communism" to "socialism", and you have a statement of conservative principals as relevant today as it was in 1960. Why redo the math? Two plus two will always equal four.

More on GM's recent loan "repayment"
"Whitacre omitted two facts that rendered his column highly misleading. They are the kind of omissions that constitute securities fraud when made by a company in connection with the purchase or sale of a security or when a company reports its financial results."
But its OK - the company is owned and controlled by the Federal Government. They would never lie to us...

Even More, Shocked! Shocked!

Did Team Hopenchange bury a report just before the vote on ObamaCare, which concluded it would indeed bend the health care cost curve - but in the other direction?

Seems they didn't want the report to influence the vote. Isn't this the kind of information that should determine the vote???

26 April 2010

I'm Shocked! Shocked!

Obama's $787 million stimulus didn't work. No surprise there. It wasn't ever supposed to "work" - it was intended to pay off The One's political supporters as fast as he could with as much of someone else's money as he could. And on that score, it worked quite well.

Stereotype 101.

Remember, this was said in public in 2010; not 1934. What's next? Charactures of Wall Street bankers with hooked noses?...

Standard, Double, Classic Example Of.

The Left / Mainstream Media have been very quick recently to sound the alarm over what they see as the potential of violence in peaceful Tea Party protests. When the violence is actual and from the Left though, the alarm bells are strangely silent.

GM's "repayment" hype is just that - hype. It's still owned by Uncle Sam, and controlled by Team Hopenchange and their union allies. That's one of the contributing reasons why I just got another one of these.

OK, not really. Turns out ObamaCare will increase health care costs, not lower them.

Coming To A (Fuzzy) Head. (UPDATED)

The Archbishop of Canterbury finally seems to have overplayed his 'lets-dialogue-our-way-to-happily-ever-after 'approach to the Current Unpleasantness (tm) afflicting the Anglican Communion.

Thanks to the repeated actions of The Episcopal Church (tm), the Anglican Church of Canada, and other members of the vocal, hard-Left minority - plus the repeated inactions of Lambeth Palace in dealing with them - the Anglican Communion is going to tear itself apart. There is no stopping it now.

May God have mercy on our souls. Katherine Jefferts-Schori and her lawyers sure won't.

Happy Patriot's Day.

235 years ago today, a bunch of men assembled on the town green in Lexington, Massachusetts, and at the bridge at Concord a few miles down the road, and fired 'the shot heard round the world' . We called those men patriots, because they risked their lives that day (and some gave their lives) to defend the most basic human right - liberty. Such men were hated and reviled by the government then, and by those who clung to that government for their power, and are still hated today. But the patriots prevailed, and changed the world.

Today, not much has changed. Well, except this - the patriots of today's revolution will win the day with ballots, not bullets; with speech, not swords. We have not reached the point of arms to defend our Rights in our own nation; I pray we never do.

Can Barbie save The Episcopal Church (tm)? Walter Russell Mead doesn't think so. I agree.

UPDATE: And in a related note, another Episcopal bad vestment sighting:
"While flames have been and still are successfully incorporated in vestments (as symbols of the Holy Spirit), it is most definitely not a good idea to process down the aisle looking like somebody just set fire to you."
Indeed.

UPDATE 17APR10: I think Tea Party Barbie will sell rather better than Episcopal Bishop Barbie.

I'll Take Hijacking For $120, Alex. OK, How About $30? No? What About For Free?

As I mentioned earlier, there appears to be a concerted effort by Ron Paul's disciples to hijack the Southern Republican Leadership Conference this week in New Orleans. Paul's political arm, Campaign for Liberty, had been selling tickets to the event for $30 to the faithful, or $90 off price. I suppose that didn't spur the adoring to action as much as C4L thought (times are tough - guess their moms didn't have the extra cash), so now C4L is giving tickets away.

This Ain't No Party, This Ain't No Disco, This Ain't No Fooling Around.

Well, it's official. I'm going to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans next weekend. If nothing else, to vote against Ron Paul in the straw poll. (I'd vote for a used Barcalounger before I'd vote for Paul -ed.) His minions will likely stack that deck, but their $30 tickets from C4L won't get them were I'm going. Heh, heh. It's a conspiracy, I tell 'ya!!

And yes, I'll post what happens from the unique perspective of your humble blogger.

01 April 2010

Well, There's Your Problem.

When it comes to ObamaCare and that Constitution thingy, a Democrat Congressman from Illinois has an accidental bout of honesty:

Worrying about the Constitution isn't, apparently, a qualification to become a Democrat Member of Congress. Neither, it seems, is knowing the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

Hattip: The Hayride.

UPDATE: Since I have a calculator on my iPhone and a degree from LSU, let me do some math for the good Congressman. If he actually read a 2,700 page long bill three times (2,700 x 3), that is 8,100 pages. If he spent one minute per page, that would be 8,100 minutes. There are 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day. That makes (60 x 24) 1,440 minutes in a day. Which means it took the Congressman, if he read straight through, 5.625 days. (8,100 divided by 1,440)

FYI - you can read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in under an hour.

UPDATE 02APR10: Damage control. Which would be more believable if the good Congressman didn't keep looking at notes and saying "uh" a lot. No matter what he says now, Rep. Hare has presented his GOP challenger in a few months with a political gift that will keep on giving.

Memories...

Remember during the Bush years when The Left / Mainstream Media largely ignored these kind of things, excusing them as free speech and "patriotic" dissent? No one at CNN, or CBS, or NPR, or The New York Times, seemed to panicked about it. But now that The Left / Mainstream Media are on the receiving end, dissent is suddenly a grave threat to the Republic.

The next time you hear some CNN news-babe get her thong all in a knot because a Tea Party protester had a sign comparing Obama to Hitler or Stalin, or call his policies socialist, remember what Bush 43 - and other GOP presidents before him - have had to endure without the the Fourth Estate saying much of anything.

From Hot Air, which has more here.

UPDATE: As you watch the video at the link above, notice how how much the anti-war Kucinich Left of yesterday sounds like the anti-war Ron Paul Right of today. Paranoia, aparrently, is non-partisan.
