Ignoring the obvious issues of pantheism, the inherent attitude of Earth First! et al is actually anti-naturalistic. As anyone who has ever watched The Lion King knows, there is a circle of life. Old-growth forests are hit by lightning and burn up - of course, when people "protect the trees," then the old-growth forests REALLY burn up when lightning (or whatever) strikes.
