"Understand -- never served a day on active duty, went to a school at taxpayers' expense and had a minor injury that didn't keep him from going on to play college ball," Issa said.

Live And Let Die.
I firmly believe in 'live and let live'. But, it takes two to agree on that premise for it to work. When one side does not believe in this and one side does - the latter to the point of denying reality - it is little more than a path to destruction for the latter. This is what happens, to paraphrase a 60's hippy mantra, "if they gave a war and only one side comes". The side that doesn't show up, dies. That is undeniable fact.
And today we in the West are dying. Why? Because we are at war. We refuse to admit it, and we won't show up. Yes, we have gone to Afghanistan and Iraq in the "War on Terror", but we are fighting the wrong war, for the wrong goals.
We must admit we are in a much bigger war. A war for our culture and our values against those who want to destroy them. It is not a war that came about because of policy decisions of the last 50 years, or our insensitivity, or George Bush's arrogance.
We did not choose this war. It was chosen for us, 1,300 years ago. Once upon a time, we defended our way of life against this threat - in places like Jerusalem, or at the Gates of Vienna. We in the West seemed to think the war is over.
But it is not over. The side that chose it never really never quit.
And nowadays our leaders and our elites do not defend our way of life - they apologize for it. They denigrate our culture and our advancements outright, or give our hard-won freedoms and values lip-service at best. They look to appease those who see our values as "filthy", and us as "infidels" not worthy of being treated as fully human. (Note: It is not just the West our enemies see that way. It is any culture or value system that does not agree with theirs.) Our leaders and our elites refuse to name our enemy, because they refuse to believe we are at war with them. And the more they do, the more our enemy presses the fight.
Which leads me to my point: I sorry to say, but I'm having a very hard time disagreeing with this Pat Condell video:
I still have a hope that his conclusion is wrong, but it is very difficult anymore, as a person of reason, to not conclude that our enemy today isn't "Terrorism", or "Radical Islam", or "Fundamentalist Islam"... it is Islam itself.
For a decade I have been hearing about Islam as a "religion of peace", but seeing mostly violence in it's name. I have been bombarded with admonitions not to hate Islam, but see mostly hatred for me and my values from those I'm not supposed to hate. I have read of church burnings, temple bombings, Bible torchings, and the imprisonment, mutilations, and murders, of Christians, Jews, Hindus, Baha'i, and others, in the name of Islam with little or no reaction. But a campy YouTube video or a simple cartoon always seems to generate riots, killings and renewed calls for Sharia-like "anti-blasphemy" laws in the West. I have been waiting for that majority of "peace-loving" and tolerant Muslims I am repeatedly told are out there to denounce this war against the non-Islamic world.
Do they really exist? Or, is Pat right?

Nature is a very, very dangerous place, and is constantly looking for any opportunity to do us in. Without our unique ability as homo sapiens to change that equation, it would, too.
Our ancient ancestor's lives weren't a harmonious time of peace and plenty within Nature's balance. They lived at the whim of Nature's forces, and their lives were nasty, brutish, and very, very short because of it. That's the "natural" state of existence. It only changed when we had enough of that, thank you very much, began to tell Nature to "piss off" - to defeat Nature's threats, to take dominion over our lives, and to change our environment to suit us.

Nature is a very, very dangerous place, and is constantly looking for any opportunity to do us in. Without our unique ability as homo sapiens to change that equation, it would, too.
Our ancient ancestor's lives weren't a harmonious time of peace and plenty within Nature's balance. They lived at the whim of Nature's forces, and their lives were nasty, brutish, and very, very short because of it. That's the "natural" state of existence. It only changed when we had enough of that, thank you very much, began to tell Nature to "piss off" - to defeat Nature's threats, to take dominion over our lives, and to change our environment to suit us.
Nature is not some big, green, benign theme park. If you are travelling in grizzly country, "Take nothing smaller than a .357; leave with nothing but your skin."

The Left / Mainstream Media finally has a mass shooting triggerman that fits their 'Right-Wingers-And-Guns-Are-A-Violent-Threat' narrative.

Conservatives oppose National Socialism as much as we oppose the other extreme of that political cancer - Marxist-Leninist-Obamaist Socialism. Second, conservatives don't think any race is 'supreme'; that's silly and irrational. We think certain ideas - like freedom, and the rule of law - are supreme. Big difference.

The SQUIRREL! Election
My humble boss here and I had a brief discussion on FaceBook. He posted something, I responded with an idea, and Clifford made it snarky.
What he posted, and all you need to know about the 2012 Presidential election is this:
The administration, for the 31st time out of their 41 months, tells us "not too read too much" into this, and to "consider the context". So we, in the administrations view, should completely ignore the 800 lb. gorilla in the room.
The administration's campaign has been reduced to distracting the public from their record. "Today's unemployment numbers........SQUIRREL!"
Where are these vicious squirrels? All around.
Chick-Fil-A? Squirrel. An openly Christian company, with NO history of discrimination in hiring or service, must be damned for supporting a view that the President held until 3 months ago.
Romney's tax returns? Squirrel. Sen Harry Reid (D-NV), who won't release his own tax returns, has claimed an unknown, anonymous person has claimed that Romney didn't pay his taxes. This is quite amusing. First, Reid has failed to deny the widespread allegations of pederasty against him. Second, President Obama's past is "unimportant", but Romney's high school report card is newsworthy.
Please look for many more "SQUIRREL!" moments in the next 3 months. Will you be so easily distracted? Or will you keep your eyes on the prize?

"And with those comments, AK-47s will be backordered until the election." Ironic, isn't it; the only part of the private sector Obama seems to be able to grow, is firearms. Sturm, Ruger & Company recently suspended new orders for a time because of their huge backlog. That sort of thing doesn't seem to be happening with makers of solar cells or electric cars...

Mayor Nanny wants cops to go on strike for more gun control. I, for one, hope they do.
In 1978, the New Orleans Police went on strike (contract issues, not guns). In less than a week, at least three criminals died at the hands of armed victims, one in a rather well-publicised attempted car-jacking. During the strike, crime actually declined. Criminals knew that a cop will shoot as a last resort; victims, however - especially victims who know there is no police help - don't tend to wait.
Word to the wise, Mayor Blumberg: People won't easily give up the right to protect themselves once they have to use it.

Change and Hope
Dear Readers, I trust you have read the post immediately below.
It is true that both Clifford and I have been dealing with some rather sudden changes. Some could call them devastating. I, for one am not downhearted. Nor will I allow Clifford to be so. I keep coming back to one saying:
"Before you self diagnose depression or despair, have you considered the possibility that you may just be surrounded by assholes?"
I do believe that to be the case.
The Chinese character for "change" is a combination of the symbols for "danger" and "opportunity".
Yes, there is some risk in these changes. There is also great opportunity. Unfortunately navigating the dangers and chasing the opportunities will take some time.
I will do my best to fill in the gaps when Clifford can not attend this blog as much as he likes. And I'll encourage him, with all I can muster, to keep up the snark.
He will be back. To paraphrase Heinlein "You can cure someone of blogging. But you can't cure them of the need to blog". Clifford loves this blog, it's been his baby for years now. He is, justifiably, proud of his efforts.
Above all, he enjoys entertaining and educating his readers.
So have hope for his swift return. Even with these unplanned changes, I am hopeful. We've seen a moderate Republican elected in liberal Massachusetts. We've seen a sweep of fiscal conservatives into the US House, Senate, Governorships, State Legislatures, and lesser offices. We are seeing fiscal conservatives doing their best to hold the line on spending in DC. We have reasonable prospects for fiscal conservatism making gains in 2012, maybe even the White House. So there is good reason to be hopeful about our economy, if we can just hold on for 18 months.
Keep checking back, we'll be doing the same as you, the best we can.

Good Bye And Good Luck.
As I learned the hard way this week, nothing is forever. As a consequence, I think it necessary to put Red Stick Rant into a state of suspended animation. Whether this is temporary, semi-permanent, or permanent, only time will tell. The The Grey Man may take over the helm, but he is also in a similar state as me.
As you know, my dear readers, since about January I have let this site languish, sometimes for days or weeks at a time. It is not due to a lack of interest in the political, cultural and theological goings on in the world, but an utter lack of time and focus. Where my focus has been is on my work in a dwindling economy. I don't think I can be blamed for that.
But, in this last week everything changed; and rather suddenly. I find myself, at 52, going from the frying pan into the fire, and having to redouble my efforts to keep up.
I am sure I will be alright, but I do not think it fair of me to pretend this site is active, when clicking here only gets you something you already saw a few days or a week ago. I have more respect for you, dear readers, and your time. For the past four years you have given up of that time to read what I have to say.
And for that, I can not thank you enough. Especially my loyal readers.
The blogosphere will survive without my voice right now; my family and career, however, will not. See the list of blogs over on the right? Well, check 'em out. Some of the best voices out there.
While I will be drawing down, but I am not cashing out. I still intend to be very active in politics in Louisiana - especially this election season - and commenting from time to time on other blogs. I will also be doing an occasional guest post over at The Hayride.
So again, thank you all. I will see you on the flip side.

One Man, Not Enough Votes.
Via Scott at The Hayride, Eric Holder is suing the State of Louisiana because, well, we're not signing up enough Democrats:

A federal lawsuit accusing two state agencies of failing to provide adequate voter registration services for people who get food stamps, disability payments and Medicaid will be fought in court, the state's chief elections officer said Tuesday. (emphasis mine)Which begs the question: If "the voting process begins with registration, therefore it is essential that all citizens have unfettered access to voter registration opportunities," then why is it only places "that provide public assistance" - where people receive government largess - are registering people? What about us schlubs who pay for it? Why isn't the tax office required to ask us to register? Or when we pay for our building permit? Or pay our occupational license fee? Or apply for a concealed carry permit?
