The sale, for $70 million, would return the paper to local ownership after two decades in which it struggled to stem the decline in circulation and revenue. The price would represent a staggering drop in value for The Globe, which The Times bought in 1993 for $1.1 billion, the highest price paid for an American newspaper.

You buy in at $1.1 billion and sell at $70 million... Let's figure the profit here: nothing from nothing, carry the nothing...

While I find Serrano's work repugnant, I find the response in Avignon equally repugnant in a free society. The litmus test here is how The Left / Mainstream Media react/spin this story. Will we hear lots of there-are-limits-to-free-speech lectures from them, just like we did when the 'Arab/Muslim Street' went nuts after the Danish Cartoon kerfuffle? Don't hold your breath.

If Bush had done this, the howls from The Left / Mainstream Media would wake the Cook County Democrat majority the dead. Endless talk of "shadow government", "secret lobbyist influence", "Nixonian", and "Halliburton", would ensue. Now... nada.

When government tries to hide what it's doing from the public and the press turns a blind eye, we no longer have a free press - we have a propaganda ministry.

You would think The Left / Mainstream Media would have learned from the ACORN scandal. But, no: Planned Parenthood advises a "pimp" how to get his underage, illegal immigrant girls abortions and STD exams.

What will it take for The Left / Mainstream Media to learn it's not 1968? They don't control the public's access to information anymore - the public does.
