A Modest Proposal.

With the Session upon us, here is something for an enterprising Louisiana Leggie looking to get their name out there.

As we all know, this week our lords neighbors over on The Left / Mainstream Media have taken to their fainting couches because... religious freedom is "UN-AMERICAN!!!!", or something. Their logic goes something like this: A business is "public"; therefore, it has no rights and must do and act as the state says. Since individuals are not forced into opening businesses, they choose to give up any assertion of personal rights they may have when doing business because, businesses are not people - they do not have rights.

Allrighty, then.

Here is the first sentence in Louisiana Revised Statute RS 40:1379.3(O):
"The provisions of Subsection N of this Section shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit issued under this Section."
This allows a business owner, like Starbucks, Target, or your local vegan health food market, to refuse you entry if you happen to be legally carrying a sidearm, based only on their belief that you shouldn't be allowed to exercise a legal right. Which would be, in the words of The Left / Mainstream Media...

. . . D E S C R I M I N A T I O N ! ! !

And we can't have that, now can we? So if some Leggie out there is looking to attract TV cameras and reporters faster than the revision of an Obama economic forecast gets revised, suggest a revision to that sentence. Something like:
"Except for places of public accommodation as defined by Section 201 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and not otherwise restricted under the provisions of Subsection N of this Section, the provisions of Subsection N of this Section shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit issued under this Section."

Best. Twitter. Response. Ever.

From Scott at The Hayride:, one Congressman's classic tweet puts the last five years in sharp perspective.

And if you are not reading The Hayide, well, you should. Scott is on a roll.

The Barack Obama Work Ethic.

Welcome to America, transformed:
Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.
UPDATE: More here.

UPDATE: And more over at The Hayride.

RELATED: Mother of 15 demands: "Somebody, needs to pay for all my children . . . somebody needs to be held accountable, and they need to pay." And by "somebody", of course, she means you and me. The same people who (almost) paid for all those groceries in Mansfield.

4:24 PM. Eight Years Ago.

The moment the flood waters rose enough to stop this clock in Lakeview on 29 August 2005. They continued to rise another four and one half feet.

Battle Los Angeles.

The City of Los Angeles is whining about other places luring away movie and TV production - places with low taxes and reasonable costs of doing business. And their solution? Declare an "emergency" and appoint a "czar". A little late, guys. Remember, in 2008, the movie 'Battle Los Angeles' was filmed... right here in Baton Rouge. Really.

Krotz Springs Is Now Famous For Three Things.

If you've done any amount of traveling in the Bayou State, you know that the town of Krotz Springs, Louisiana, is famous for two things:

1) Having a name that will make for hours of sophomoric jokes about "Crotch Springs" as you speed down US 190.

2) Speed trap central, in case you are actually speeding down US 190. (And by speeding, they mean 45.000001 MPH or better)

But now, apparently, Krotz Springs is going to be famous for a third thing: Sweetheart deals from Obama's EPA. Of course, Sen. Mary "Louisiana Purchase" Landreiu (D-DC) was unavailable for comment.

Here, Let Me Fix That Headline For You.

Hunting animals could return to parts of New Orleans. Hunting humans in the Big Easy has never stopped. Even though it has been banned for far longer than the hunting of animals.

New Orleans in the 1920's:

How much has changed; and how much looks the same.

Our Colorblind Senator.

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-DC) on the electorate in Louisiana:
“I think it’s a purple state, it can go Democrat or Republican. I’ve just tried to be independent for Louisiana and I think that’s what’s sustained me over time.”
Purple? Really? We just amended our Constitution with strongest language about the right to keep and bear arms in the nation, something our good Senator talks about but consistently votes against. On things like immigration, the environment, and the the Obama Agenda, Mary is almost always at odds with the wishes of the majority of Louisiana voters.

Independent? If you define "independent" as "Harry Reid's reliable bitch", then yes, Mary is... independent. Mary has only won by slim margins against weak candidates, and in '08 only because of the Obama surge. She will have neither in '14, but she will have a lot of a lot of people who remember her voting against her constituents, and for Obamacare, after Harry Reid made the infamous 'Louisiana Purchase'. The one color Mary Landrieu can always see is green.

If This Is True, Then James O'Keefe Is An Douchebag.

I am A Tea Party, South Park Republican.  And there is no doubt James O'Keefe has done more than anyone to expose the hypocrisy and criminality of The Left / Mainstream Media in these last five years. He has gone after the truth where no one else would dare.

But this goes WAY beyond the pale. This wasn't about exposing abuse or fraud by the Democrats and their hangers on. This appears, from what the article indicates, to be a petty, personal vendetta.

Jim Letten is a friend of mine. He is, without a doubt, one of the finest and most honorable men I have had the pleasure to know. Know his wife and kids, too. And for O'Keefe to try to embroil them in his anger is not 'guerilla journalism'.  It is simply despicable. Despicable.

One correction, though, is necessary.  The article's insinuation that O'Keefe's ACORN videos were not accurate is bullshit.  They were no more "selectively edited" than a 60 Minutes expose video is "selectively edited".  Plus, O'Keefe released the full raw feed which backed the up his conclusion.  Ever see Morley Safer do that?

One Man, Not Enough Votes.

Via Scott at The Hayride, Eric Holder is suing the State of Louisiana because, well, we're not signing up enough Democrats:
A federal lawsuit accusing two state agencies of failing to provide adequate voter registration services for people who get food stamps, disability payments and Medicaid will be fought in court, the state's chief elections officer said Tuesday. (emphasis mine)
Which begs the question: If "the voting process begins with registration, therefore it is essential that all citizens have unfettered access to voter registration opportunities," then why is it only places "that provide public assistance" - where people receive government largess - are registering people? What about us schlubs who pay for it? Why isn't the tax office required to ask us to register? Or when we pay for our building permit? Or pay our occupational license fee? Or apply for a concealed carry permit?

Oh, yeah...

I'm Shocked... Shocked!

Mary Landrieu isn't a "moderate". Proof:
Sixteen Democratic senators want the Justice Department to look into whether voting rights are being jeopardized in states that require photo identification in order for people to vote.
And who were these Sixteen Democrats?
The 16 senators include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Michael Bennet of Colorado, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Patty Murray of Washington, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Benjamin Cardin of Maryland, Mark Begich of Alaska, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin and Tom Udall of New Mexico.
Is anybody really surprised? After her 'Louisiana Purchase' vote for ObamaCare, do you really need more proof that Mary Landrieu is wholly owned by Reid/Obama, and is more interested in representing the interests of the Washington Elite over her constituents?

The Bayou State has had a picture ID requirement for some years, and I find it no intrusion. We require photo identification for things far more pedestrian than the sanctity of the Vote. You have to pony up a picture ID to buy beer, buy smokes, cash a check, get on a plane, or rent a car. I'm glad the requirement is there, actually, and I have first hand experience as to why: After returning to Louisiana from 7 years in New England, I found I had continued to "vote" in Orleans Parish for five of those seven years - even though I was lawfully registered to vote in Newton, Massachusetts, and had never come back to Louisiana to vote during that time.

The Right to Vote is the very basis for our Republic, and it must be kept secure and above reproach if we, The People, are to have any confidence that the system is accurate and fair. Why doesn't our Senior Senator like that idea very much?

Pulse of Louisiana.

Just in time for this week's Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, my buddy John at JMC Enterprises has released a "Pulse of Louisiana" poll. Doesn't look good for Barry, Nancy, Harry and the gang.

Today's Helpful Hint.

Don't bring a machete to a pocket-knife fight.

UPDATE" A friend noted that this proves, once again, it's not the size of your blade but what you can do with it. OK... So why do the ladies always go for the guy with the broadsword and not the one with the Swiss Army Knife? Even one with the larger, locking blade SAK? Um... metaphorically speaking, of course.

UPDATE: Maybe now is a really good time to mention that I have one of these. And if a great blade is important to you, you should have one, too. And I'm not speaking metaphorically.

Bad Actor: Port Of Call New Orleans.

Actor Nicolas Cage was arrested in New Orleans last night on domestic abuse and disturbing the peace charges. Sounds like he was studying for a role as an NOPD police officer.

Post title reference is here.
