Bill Nye The AgitProp Guy.
What does it say about all that 'settled science' when Al Gore and Bill Nye can't even get a simple high-school physics experiment right?
I know, I know; Bill Nye and Al Gore aren't real scientists (they just play them on TV). But it begs the question: If a simple high-school experiment they claim proves anthropomorphic global warming actually disproves anthropomorphic global warming, what else has been faked in the name of the Green crusade?

Flat Earth First!
In the Obama Era, comedy just seems to write itself. Last week, our Dear Leader equated those who don't buy into the ever amorphous and ever changing danger of "climate change" to being members of the "Flat Earth Society".
Well, the actual Flat Earth Society is not at all amused, and it turns out it's leader supports The O's paranoia about man-made warming/cooling/not-behaving-like-our-expensive-computer-models-predict.
Yes, the Flat Earth Society really exists.

...Before Republicans fall for something this stupid.
But wait! Now the "experts" are saying a cold day in hell could well be where we are heading. It's the 1970's all over again! Get that carbon back up in the air!

And The Ones Who Couldn't Tell An Umbrella From An AK-47 Will Get, What? An Award?...
The Burlington Mall in Burlington, Massachusetts - a place I frequented often while living in the Tax State, was evacuated today because two - not one, but two - Massachusetts Morons couldn't tell the difference between an umbrella and a "short-barreled rifle".
The poor sod who was just trying to keep dry felt so bad he came forward to the police. Will the idiots who wasted everybody's time because they couldn't tell a Totes from a Tavor do the same? It's Massachusetts - don't hold your breath.

The Vanishing 50 Million.
Back in 2005, the United Nations Environment Programme predicted that global warming would create 50 million climate refugees by 2010. It was repeated by the The Left/ Mainstream Media as gospel, proof that "we have to do something" - e.g., more government control over our lives.
2010 is now past, and someone took a look at the UN's claim. Not only was the UN off by, oh... 50 million, they have tried to disappear the prediction now that is makes the UN and thechicken little AGW cult look like fools.
Read the whole thing. And remember this next time you hear some "expert" on TV or radio claiming dire consequences because of"global warming" "climate change".
UPDATE: Oh, wait... it's now 50 million by 2020. Geez. These people are starting to sound less like scientists and more like end-of-the-world types when they wake up the day after they predicted the end of it all.

Do As Igoe, Not As I Say.
Richard Fernandez looks at my profession and concludes, if you want to know about the future don't ask an architect. As an architect, on the whole I couldn't agree more.
The starry-eyed Corbusian impulse to "remake" man by remaking cities, a movement that was driven far more by ideology, romance, and elitist guilt than by necessity or demand, failed utterly. It crashed under the weight of it's own totalitarian arrogance and lack of real understanding of the problem, since most of the people creating solutions for the working poor were, well, members of the ruling classes and had never been poor themselves. It especially failed here America for three reasons, I think. First, Americans, unlike Europeans, tend to value individual freedom more than we value collective security. When we look in the mirror we see "me", not "we". Or, at least, we used to, anyway. Second, we didn't have an entrenched aristocracy per se, especially one whose opinion the masses were conditioned over centuries to follow. We like the fact we have don't have a paternalistic ruling class determining our outcome. Or, at least, we used to, anyway. And third, unlike Europe we have the space to escape urban decay and start over, and have traditionally valued the freedom to make that choice when we had the means. Or, at least, we used to, anyway. Hence, the rise of American suburbia and exurbia - Wright's 'Broadacre City' became our solution instead of Corbu's 'Radiant City'. We started 'Learning from Las Vegas', and we liked what we saw. Or, at least, we used to, anyway.
I think the "green" movement, which is all the rage in architectural circles these days, will go the same way as the Corbusian movement of the last century, and for much the same reasons. It is ideologically driven with an apocalyptic, totalitarian bent, it is elitist in the extreme, and those wanting to impose it have little understanding of, or experience with, how they want others to live. Without restrictive laws and government regulations imposing this or banning that, or handing out tax-payer funded grants and subsidies to favored groups and solutions, the "green" economy we hear so much about would, if people were given a choice, never come to pass. That is why those who advocate "going green" want to limit personal choice as much as possible (buy only this kind of light bulb, or that type of toilet, or use this kind of window) and why, like those before them who advocated Corbu's outlook, they mostly ignore the wants, needs and values of those they claim to be helping.

CNN Confirms Bush Vindicated: Iraq Had Weapons Of Mass Destruction!
Well, the AK-47 takes a "high-capacity" magazine, and Iraq had lots of AK-47s... From this CNN screed on firearms:
Second, it shows how actually ignorant The Left / Mainstream Media are when it comes to firearms, and it assumes (hopes, actually...) that the rest of of us are as bereft of firearms experience and knowledge as they are. While firms do make a 30-round capacity magazine extension for the Glock, the writers conveniently forget to note that "a high-capacity magazine that held 31 bullets" is non-standard for a Glock. Implication: The Glocks hold "31 bullets". Eeeeevil! The "small sampling" of the "notorious cases" they cite are pretty much all of the notorious psychotic attacks in the US in the last two decades. They note only 11 in near 20 years, in a country the anti-gunners claim are awash in guns. Either the economists who authored this article knew all this and are trying to pump up the emotional punch of their argument, or they don't know what they are talking about. It's an either/or.
But the biggest indication that The Left / Mainstream Media don't know jack about firearms comes from the graphic CNN used to illustrate the evil of high-capacity magazines. What looks to the untrained eye as a pile of spent pistol cartridge cases (implication: high-capacity) is, in fact, a pile of spent cases from a 105mm howitzer. Remember, CNN is supposed to be a "professional" journalistic organization (as opposed to us "amateurs" out here in blogosphere-land). I can understand mistaking a .45 case for a 9mm case, but really. As far as I know (and I was in the artillery for a while), carrying a 105mm howitzer concealed is a bit of a trick. At the very least, you need an oversized coat. You can't pick up 105mm howitzer ammunition at Cabela's or Wal-Mart, and besides, they are single-shot weapons - they don't use "a high-capacity magazine". The last "notorious cases" of mass shootings with artillery in the US were, what?... The Civil War?
If they don't want to look as silly as this article makes them, the gun-scare faction would do well to actually know something about what they fear, and have some solid facts to back up their emotional arguments. They don't, so expect more of the same as The Left / Mainstream Media attempt to leech some kind of political advantage out of the tragic event in Tucson.

"A high-capacity magazine in effect turns a semiautomatic firearm into a weapon of mass destruction."The CNN piece doesn't make the case for more gun control. It only proves the two things common to most anti-gun articles: First, that The Left / Mainstream Media have few facts to back up their arguments for taking guns out of the hands of this country's rulers ('We The People' still rule this country, right?), only well-publicized - but isolated - incidents, anecdotal conclusions, and shrill appeals to emotion.

Global Warming doomsdayers meet in Cancun — amid record cold temperatures.
How long will it be before these same people are pestering us for greater government control over our lives, redistributing our wealth, and the general destruction of Western civilization, to prevent an imminent Ice Age?

Duping The Climate Dupers.
When they're not partying on someone else's Dollar (or Euro, or Yen, or Yuan.. -ed.), the participants at the Cancun climate meeting are very concerned about... crippling the US economy and banning water:
Which begs the question: Should we believe the dire predictions, and buy into the drastic solutions, of environmentalists who don't know 'di-hydrogen monoxide' is water?

We know Janet "It's Constitutional For Us To Touch Your Junk" Napolitano is a nutter on the Left. No news there. But now my suspicions about Fox News' Judge Andrew Napolitano being a nutter on the Right have been confirmed. And I mean, confirmed at the Alex Jones nutter level.
Judge, if you're going to pontificate on things you don't understand, read an 'effing engineering report first - written by, y'know, people who actually understand how buildings stand up (and fall down). And ask yourself - how many architects and engineers buy into the twaddle of 9/11 "Truth" conspiracy theories?

Via Hot Air, here's one reason why Mr. Newman was right:
If you're from Louisiana and/or send your kids to LSU, remember your tax dollars and your tuition payments give this fellow a paycheck. Critics are saying Governor Jindal's cuts in higher education will force the lay off faculty. OK. I say we start with this Dr. Schaefer guy.
And if he does get laid off, Dr. Schaefer should know that out-of-work radical Lefty academics are always welcome as clergy in The Episcopal Church (tm). It seems to be a career fast-track.

It is the responsiblity of everyone to preserve the planet they live on by not breeding any more children who will continue their filthy practices. Children represent FUTURE catastrophic pollution whereas their parents are current pollution. NO MORE BABIES! Population growth is a real crisis. Even one child born in the US will use 30 to a thousand times more resources than a Third World child. It's like a couple are having 30 babies even though it's just one! If the US goes in this direction maybe other countries will too! That is because most Third World children live in socialist or theocratic kleptocracies. Volt Is A Shock.
Government Motors new Chevy Volt, that "green" car that's supposed to lower the levels of the oceans and help the earth begin to heal - or something - will set you back $41,000 just to plug one into your local wind farm.
If you want to look at that in "green" terms the rest of us deal understand, for 41,000 greenbacks you could get:
Mercedes-Benz C350
Acura TL
BMW 335i
Lexus ISC Convertible (or for two grand more than the Volt, Lexus RX Hybrid)
Or, looking at it another way: Assuming $20,000 for a 26 mile-per-gallon Honda Civic and $2.75/gallon for gas, for $41,000 a person could buy a Civic and drive it 198,545 miles.
UPDATE 28JULY2010: A reader over at Instapundit isn't too impressed: "The Volt will be an expensive, predictable failure." I'm afraid I must agree. Government Motors is, for political reasons - not marketing ones - betting the store (and oodles of your tax dollars) on a boutique product that will only interest a niche market. There are just so many Ed Begley's in this world...
