A Modest Proposal.

With the Session upon us, here is something for an enterprising Louisiana Leggie looking to get their name out there.

As we all know, this week our lords neighbors over on The Left / Mainstream Media have taken to their fainting couches because... religious freedom is "UN-AMERICAN!!!!", or something. Their logic goes something like this: A business is "public"; therefore, it has no rights and must do and act as the state says. Since individuals are not forced into opening businesses, they choose to give up any assertion of personal rights they may have when doing business because, businesses are not people - they do not have rights.

Allrighty, then.

Here is the first sentence in Louisiana Revised Statute RS 40:1379.3(O):
"The provisions of Subsection N of this Section shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit issued under this Section."
This allows a business owner, like Starbucks, Target, or your local vegan health food market, to refuse you entry if you happen to be legally carrying a sidearm, based only on their belief that you shouldn't be allowed to exercise a legal right. Which would be, in the words of The Left / Mainstream Media...

. . . D E S C R I M I N A T I O N ! ! !

And we can't have that, now can we? So if some Leggie out there is looking to attract TV cameras and reporters faster than the revision of an Obama economic forecast gets revised, suggest a revision to that sentence. Something like:
"Except for places of public accommodation as defined by Section 201 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and not otherwise restricted under the provisions of Subsection N of this Section, the provisions of Subsection N of this Section shall not limit the right of a property owner, lessee, or other lawful custodian to prohibit or restrict access of those persons possessing a concealed handgun pursuant to a permit issued under this Section."

Bias? What Media Bias? Stupid Is As Stupid Does Edition.

My wife had on some insipid infotainment staple of The Left / Mainstream Media (that Charlie Rose guy is on it) this morning, and they were, of course, towing the approved line about how Boehner and the GOP are insane, and were going to shut down the government in order to stop ObamaCare because they wouldn't raise the debt ceiling. And they had the obligatory sound bite of Dear Leader sounding all leaderlike. Somehow, they missed this bit of Orwellian, or just out-and-out stupid, logic by Dear Leader in the same speech.:
Now, this debt ceiling -- I just want to remind people in case you haven't been keeping up -- raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy.
And hate is love, freedom is slavery, war is peace. Got it.

Big Rock Candy Health Care.

This Tele-Tubby-level Oregon PSA aimed at 20-somethings is The Left / Mainstream Media's wet dream of Obamacare. All that's missing are a few unicorns and Obama's radiant face as the sun.

Hey, hipsters - news flash: You were "free to be healthy" long before ObamaCare, but you had to pay for it yourself for it like real grown-ups. Grown-ups are the people whose house you moved back into after you finished grad school and the Starbucks cut your hours to part-time.

The Right To Keep And Bear Arms Is Outmoded, They Say.

Riiight. Tell that to these Mexicans. Quote of the day week year:
A 47-year-old bureaucrat, who is sure that she will be killed if the gang retakes her town, said of her decision to join the cause: “I may live one year or 15, but I will live free." (emphasis RSR)
Old World Problem. New World Response.

Medici Bank and Trust.

Just like Obama/Bloomberg/Pelosi have done wonders in growing the firearms industry, the Dodd/Frank/Durbin banking "reforms" are growing the pawn industry. Banking like it was in, I don't know, the 1400's. Now that's reform.

A Country As Wealthy As Ours??

Barry? Hello? We're not a wealthy country anymore. We're 'effing broke. And a whole lot more broke today than we were in January 2009, thanks to you.

And I'm sure that, for some people, ObamaCare will be cheaper than their cell phone bill.

Like people who get free ObamaPhones, for instance.

First, The Tea Parties...

...Now, the American Legion. In Obama's America, being proud of your country is fast becoming a criminal offense. Unless you're proud of Obama...

Well, There's Your Problem.

ObamaCare as a flow chart. There are circuit boards in your smart phone that are simpler. But since ObamaCare was never was about health care, but about control - control of your lives to control government costs - our masters see this maze as a feature, not a bug. Bonus points: Can you find the "If you like your current doctor / insurance you can keep it" bubble? Yeah, me either.

And remember, Louisiana voters, Sen. Mary "Louisiana Purchase" Landrieu (D-DC), thinks ObamaCare is just peachy (for you, anyways) and says she'd vote for it again!

I'm Shocked. Shocked!

OK, not really. Seems lots of folks in Obama's housing bailout program are defaulting again:
Nearly 1.2 million mortgage modifications have been completed since the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) was first launched four years ago. Yet more than 306,000 borrowers have re-defaulted on their loans and more than 88,000 are at risk of following suit, the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) found in its quarterly report to Congress.
I'm not sure what the problem is here. The Democrats have - to their credit - succeeded in creating lots of "affordable" housing. Take Detroit, for example.

Intolerent, Know-Nothing Dickheads.

Hey, all you hip, with it, upper-middle class kiddies who think they know everything because you have an iPad and taken a class or two, Pat Condell has a few words for you. Listen closely. It's called freedom of speech.

Why Not? They Lied To Us About ObamaCare.

A government without honor wants us to use the 'honor system'.

OK. So let's do to them what they do to us:  Lie.

Hopenchange Versus Real World.

Real World 1; Hopenchange minus $384 billion.

Problem is the jack they're minus isn't their money. It's our money. And our children's money, and our grand children's money and our great-grand children's money. Which we/they will have to pay back to those staunch American friends, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the EU.

The Doctor Is, Out.

At least, the doctor we want. If Americans think ObamaCare will return us to the neighborhood family doctor, they are sadly mistaken.

I remember well as a child going to Dr. Webb in New Orleans. He had been my mom's doctor as well when she was younger, and he knew my dad. He knew us all personally, and treated us as such. We were, in the best sense of the word, his "patients". When I had bad bouts of bronchitis Dr. Webb would be at the emergency room at 2am. On several occasions he made house calls. My parents had major medical insurance, but the thought never crossed our mind to have someone else pay for the routine stuff. He preformed a service, and my folks paid him. We had the same relationship with our dentist, our eye doctor, etc., etc.

Now fast forward to 1988, and I was introduced to something called Harvard Community Health Plan (then HCHP, now Harvard/Pilgrim), a "community based" HMO. In it, I was assigned (no choice) to a clinic (in Watertown, MA), and I was told I could choose any doctor "accepting patients". Only two out of the 40 or so there were accepting. When you went to the clinic the wait was hours, not minutes, even with an appointment. Because it only "cost" a $5 copay people jammed the place unannounced for any minor malady. The doctor never knew me as anything other than a folder and a number - there was never any personal relationship. I remember bringing Dr. Webb a gift at Christmas (a bottle of scotch IIRC) and we'd chat about sports, Scouts, good eating habits and the like, and I remember him coming over to the house one Thanksgiving. My "primary care" doctor at HCHP didn't even recognize me in the grocery - "I'm sorry, I see SO many people", he excused.

HCHP was indeed cheap, but it was made that way by mass-production and a purposeful lack of relationship. Since those of us in it had little (if any) skin in the game, controlling cost through volume and "gate-keeping" were SOP. HCHP appeared to have little reason to develop personal relationships, because I wasn't anyone's "patient". The relationship we did have was apparently that of a wigit on an assembly line. You will fit here. You will go when we tell you, where we tell you. We will regulate you. We know better. Oh, and to hell with a second opinion.

When my daughter was born we were assigned a birth hospital, my wife was assigned an OB, etc., etc. Yes, we paid only a couple hundred bucks and lucked out with a great OB, but we had no, absolutely no, say in any decision affecting us. HCHP made the calls in the name of "controlling costs". And when my friend Hugh and I blew up a box of surgical gloves like balloons and taped them to my wife's bed, a nurse reamed us out for being "wasteful", and said we were helping to "drive up the cost of health care".

Harvard / Pilgrim is one of the programs Obama and pals hold up as an example of how they think "health care" should be "delivered". After dealing with that I prefer the old way. And write my own check, thank you.

Only A Misty-Eyed Marxist Or A Community Organizer...

...Would think it makes economic sense to spend $278,000 (of somebody else's money, it should be pointed out -ed.) to add or save one $50,000 a year job.

And they wonder why we have no recovery. The good news is, such unrealistic and pig-headed logic can only exist, thankfully, in Socialist Worker Party meetings and college faculty clubs (but I repeat myself - ed.). The bad news is those are the very folks running the show until January 2013.

Barry Does Some Stand Up.

Wasting a couple trillion of our money - and our kids money, and our grand kids money, and our great-grand kids money - for "shovel ready" projects, auto company bailouts, housing market bailouts, and "green" jobs, is now a Hopenchange laugh line.

For Barry and friends, well insulated as they are in Washington DC, in academia, in the unions and in the media, it's easy to say, "Oops, sorry. Hahaha", because this doesn't effect them. For them, it isn't real. It's just numbers on a page; an exercise in spreadsheets, ledgers and talking points. It doesn't even interrupt their golf game.

For those of us who it does effect, who are those numbers and who are worried about a far bigger game - our children, our freedom and our future - it is very, very real indeed.
