If That News Thing Doesn't Work Out, There's Always 'Dancing With The Stars'...

Or in Katic Couric's case, it appears a spot in the next Sir Mix-a-Lot video would be in order.

I said this at another site also:
I don’t like television.
I don’t like television people.
I don’t like parties.
I don’t like to dance.
I am a REALLY dull.
But, for cryin’ out loud, leave this poor woman alone. People who do go to parties do dance. If they are women, and a little older than very young, a photographic record does not, perhaps, capture the play and enjoyment of the actual event.
Don’t SOME old conservatives dance? (I mean, I don’t, but not everybody is as dull as me.)Wouldn’t they look just as stupid if you published candid photos?
Just asking.

Ow my eyes! I don't want to see that. Now I need more brain bleach.
Who is this lady anyway?

"Anonymous":

If these same photos had been of, say, Sarah Palin, would you have demanded the New York Times, the Washington Post, CBS News, CNN, Kos, HufPo, etc., etc., etc., leave her alone??

Or, would you be droning on about how they speak to Palin's character and competence?

Dear Clifford,
The short answer to your question is: "yes, I would want news outlets to address ideas, not how an older person looks when, among friends and in an intimate setting, she, metaphorically, kicks off her shoes and has a good time."
These pictures were obviously taken at some kind of personal social occasion; there is a little girl dressed in fairly prosaic "Sunday best" in one of the pictures. It's a wedding, or birthday, or something.
The fact that the liberal media consistently behaves despicably, does not give us conservatives any right or reason to act the same way.

No. It is NOT good that people treat ad hominem invective as a substitute for thoughtful engagement, and doing more of that does not even things out.
Even the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, who provides embarrassing riches of awkward photos, ought to receive the charitable presumption that she is a lady, and should be criticized only for her public acts and pronouncements. So, for example, I think it is fair game to notice, if one is so inclined, her arguably absurd liturgical dress - since that involves a public and intentional act of her leadership, expressing her ideas, as a leader, about what is suitable in public worship. It would NOT be acceptable to comment on her appearance in her bathing costume on her day off, should such a photo come to our attention.
