Remember back in the 1980s when the Democrats cried gloom and doom over the "huge" deficits that Ronald Reagan ran up in order to rebuild the military, or their criticism of George W. Bush's deficits in order to fund the Terror War? Well, dear readers, you ain't seen nothing yet.
It's pay-off time, Chicago style.

I also remember when Republicans talked about how deficits didn't matter. Stop being so shrill.
I've never thought deficits didn't matter. They do, and not in a good way. With the exception of a grave national emergency (war, natural disaster), spending more than we have is bloody irresponsible - and the only reply the Democrats seem have to that is “we need more money,” never “we need to spend less.” Call it what you want - "investments," "resources," etc., it's still Uncle Sam sticking his hand in my wallet because some pol has an agenda. It’s easy to be altruistic with someone else’s money. Do you honestly believe “Anonymous,” that funding "community outreach," or "the arts," or “investing” in GM and AIG, is really the necessary role of government?
