LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF THOSE WHO THREATEN THEM
11 December 2009
Arcofailure.
What with the world's most elite busybodies meeting in Copenhagen to figure out how they want us proles to live, Byron York points out an earlier attempt at a 'green' utopia. An architect plays a central role, I'm sad to say.
Arcologies are a brilliant idea ruined by a fundamental design flaw.
Humans do not, by choice, wish to live in a tiny box with a strong central authority that can override their personal choices. So they will never work in a notationally free society.
A non free society lacks the technological drive to keep such a complex system functioning effectively.
The only way such a system can work is temporarily (years to multi generational) and with a strong overriding goal (like exploration and transport). See sailing ships 200 to 600 years ago. Then think for the stars.
