Team Hopenchange will now use NASA to... fix Toyotas.
NASA was once the gateway to our new frontier, our hope for that most American of urges - to explore strange new worlds and seek out new civilizations; to boldly go where no man had gone before. Instead, NASA will now be used to trash a competitor of government-run GM and Chrysler. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math here.
I mean, what would Kirk Do?

Kirk would have an interspecies romance after punching out the lights of a few aliens while Spock figured out the computer problem.
You are right; the Japanese have a space agency. Why not let them figure it out. Maybe the plan is have NASA send the bill to Tokyo and thereby help out with NASA'a budget.
